In addition to Character Creation, Art Buddies offers a variety of other ways to volunteer throughout the year. Become an Art Buddies Pen Pal and encourage creativity through snail mail. Help with Community Outreach by representing Art Buddies at art fairs, community events, and school-wide projects.

Check out the Events Calendar and visit our Be a Mentor and Outreach pages to find the opportunity that’s right for you and sign up.

We can’t wait to connect and create with you!

For more than 30 years, Art Buddies has been the go-to volunteer opportunity in the Twin Cities.

Art Buddies connects caring adults with students for one-to-one mentorship through creativity. In our core program, Character Creation, mentors and students meet once a week for 8–10 weeks (1–2 hours per week) to design and build an original 3D superhero costume.

Each student invents a character who solves a problem they care about in their community, and mentors encourage their ideas, inspire their confidence, and help bring their visions to life. You don’t need creative skills to mentor—just a willingness to show up, listen, and support a young person's imagination.
